Tegile receives new funding to develop flash storage

Image
Tegile Systems, a developer of flash-driven storage arrays for databases, virtualised server and virtual desktop environments, has announced $33 million in additional funding.Flash based storage systems could be very useful to future HPC systems because of the reduced latency of flash systems when compared to traditional storage media. However, so far the market has not seen widespread adoption in HPC because of the relatively high cost of flash technology which makes it unsuitable for most large-scale HPC systems. If flash developers can continue to innovate around the cost to design and produce flash based storage it is likely that the technology would be adopted by the HPC industry within a few years.‘The storage market is rapidly being reshaped as the battle continues between incumbents that struggle to innovate and startups that have brought tremendous innovation to data centres. In this highly competitive and turbulent market, Tegile has always been focused on two main goals: dis…
